Charlotte Murphy Art

As far back as I can remember, I was a maker; I have always wanted to record the minute aspects of nature and life through photography, sketching, painting or ceramics. The process of selecting and investigating memories on a canvas, or through the lens of a camera, helps me to become more present in the world around me. People and elements of nature often capture my attention, create memories and shape who I am.
I am very drawn to texture in my art and often add elements of the earth to paintings. The textures not only make the work more three-dimensional but also make the places I paint a real part of the work I create.
As an art teacher, I inspire my students to be fearless in their approach to art. As an artist I explore new ways to create. Through brushwork, mixed mediums, scraping, knives, collage and impasto I experiment, and my work evolves.
Art is not what you see, but what you make others' see. -Edgar Degas
